Their Outbase ID.Buzz completes Floris Jan and Mariske’s sustainable lifestyle

Floris Jan and Mariske live in Almere Oosterwold, a green and sustainable neighbourhood in Almere where residents generate as much of their own energy as possible and aim to live self-sufficiently. They have had their Oslo Blue Outbase ID.Buzz, a Porsche colour from the 1960s, since mid-September 2025.

An electric campervan powered by solar energy

“We have a roof full of solar panels, 55 in total,” Floris Jan says. “We also have a heat pump and another electric car. So using our own electricity for the campervan just makes sense. We charge it with solar power as much as possible.”

Floris Jan and Mariske had wanted to buy a campervan for years, but they definitely did not want an old diesel camper. It therefore took some time to find one that suited them. Once they found the Outbase ID.Buzz, they decided to wait a little longer for the new model. In the end, the whole process took quite some time.

“We haven’t been to a petrol station in six years. We didn’t suddenly want to start doing that again.”

Doing the maths, figuring things out and then just doing it

Buying a campervan is not something you do on a whim, so they first rented an Outbase ID.Buzz through EV Camper. Travelling together with their dog in such a compact campervan worked out really well.

After that, Floris Jan started doing the maths. “If we get rid of one car and use this as our second car as well, it actually becomes quite affordable,” he explains. “And I use it for work too.”

Floris Jan does occasionally join a meeting while on the road. “I’m still working on getting the 5G router installed properly,” he says. They already have WiFi, and with a portable projector and a screen attached to the luggage rack, they can watch films in the campervan. An audio upgrade provides great sound. “We’ve created our own ‘Buzz cinema’!”

“You always have your own space and everything you need with you. It’s so convenient.”

Work wherever you want

Mariske, a freelance photographer, sees plenty of opportunities too. “It’s ideal for me,” she says. “I photograph entrepreneurs and I want to use the Buzz more often on location. People can get changed in it and have their hair and make-up done there too. It’s ideal.”

An ID. Buzz with character

Their campervan is anything but standard. The front features a mountain landscape with trees and mist, created with a custom wrap they had added after taking delivery of the campervan.

“We got the idea from another Outbase customer,” Mariske says. “We wanted to make our Buzz personal and unique. We like doing things a little differently, which is probably also why we chose to live in Oosterwold. Getting the colours exactly right turned out to be quite a challenge, but we’re really happy with how it turned out.”

“Luckily, Mira loves the Outbase ID.Buzz too!”

Driving, working and living with the ID. Buzz

So, what is it actually like to drive? Floris Jan laughs. “It drives really well, but it is definitely still a van. I usually prefer sportier cars.”

But that does not outweigh the benefits. The space, flexibility and freedom it gives them make them very happy with their choice. Luckily, their young dog Mira loves the campervan too. “She’s perfectly happy while we’re driving, and in such a cosy Buzz we’re always close by,” Mariske says. “And if she’s happy, we’re happy too.”

Their first trips

Although they have not covered huge distances on holiday yet, they already have a few trips under their belt. As well as several weekends away and nights spent on their parents’ driveways, they have travelled to Texel and Normandy.

“We had some pretty strong headwinds in Normandy. You do notice the battery draining faster, but we’re used to driving electric, so we know what to expect.”

A bigger trip is already planned: three weeks in Slovenia. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
